Choosing Presence, Again and Again

A daily practice of family, creativity, and conscious resets

Presence isn’t something we achieve once and then check off a list.

It’s something we choose—again and again—often in the middle of busy days, tired evenings, and overstimulated minds.

A recent conversation with a fellow parent stayed with me. She shared how much she admired the creativity and free play we try to cultivate with our boys, and how she felt it truly helps delay screens. Her words felt encouraging—and honest—because while it may look intentional from the outside, the truth is simpler:

It’s a daily challenge.

It’s easy for children—and adults—to choose electronics over staying present with one another. Screens promise ease, entertainment, learning, and sometimes quiet. And when we, as parents, are exhausted, mentally stretched, or juggling too much, handing over a device can feel like the most reasonable solution.

I understand why this has become the norm.

I’ve lived it.

What I’ve also learned is that presence doesn’t require perfection—it requires permission to reset.

Some days, screens win.

Some days, creativity feels far away.

Some days, connection feels like work.

And then a new day arrives—and we get to choose again.

Parenting, much like movement or self-care, isn’t about never falling off rhythm. It’s about returning. Just like a run we skipped yesterday, or a practice we meant to start—there is always a chance to begin again.

I grew up with the television always on—news playing in the background, noise filling the space. It was normal then. Today, I’m deeply grateful we are choosing something different in our home. Not perfectly. Not rigidly. But intentionally.

What became clear in that conversation is this:

many parents don’t need more rules around screens—they need support, ideas, and simple tools to help them step out of the loop.

This is where the seed for our activity kits was planted.

They aren’t meant to replace screens forever or demand hours of effort. They are designed as gentle invitations—to sit together, create together, imagine together. Small moments that bring children back into their hands, their senses, and their stories. Moments that help parents say, “Let’s do this instead,” without pressure or guilt.

These kits are about:

  • Encouraging free play and imagination

  • Creating shared rituals between parents and children

  • Offering simple resets when days feel off track

  • Helping families choose presence—one moment at a time

Because presence doesn’t need to be loud or perfect.

It just needs a doorway.

Our hope is that these activity kits become that doorway—into slower moments, deeper connection, and a family rhythm that feels nourishing rather than overwhelming.

We won’t get it right every day.

But we can always choose again.

And sometimes, all it takes is a simple activity, a shared laugh, or a quiet moment at the table to bring us back to what matters most.
